Alex Borg addressed supporters during a political rally in Attard, where 11th District candidates took the stage to present themselves to residents, outlining the Nationalist Party’s vision for the country.

During the event, Borg announced that a future PN government would launch a €450 million Mediterranean Maritime Fuel Hub, a new economic sector expected to generate significant revenue within its first three years. The proposed offshore project at Hurd’s Bank is being positioned as a cornerstone of sustainable economic growth, with Borg emphasising that “the economy should serve people, not pressure them.”

A key pledge reiterated during the rally was the removal of the LNG tanker from Marsaxlokk Bay. Borg committed to relocating the tanker offshore, arguing that this would improve safety while addressing long-standing environmental and visual concerns raised by residents.

The tanker, in place since 2016 as part of Malta’s transition to gas-powered energy under the Electrogas agreement, has remained a contentious issue. Critics, including the PN, have questioned both the safety of a permanently moored LNG vessel near populated areas and the transparency of the original deal.

Borg framed the proposed maritime hub as a solution that balances energy needs with future-oriented planning. The PN also highlighted that earlier assurances that the tanker would be temporary were never fulfilled, strengthening its call for change.

The Attard rally forms part of the PN’s broader push to present a new economic and energy vision ahead of the next general election.
