Alex Agius Saliba To Seek Re-Election As Labour Deputy Leader
Local

Labour MEP Alex Agius Saliba has announced that he will once again contest the role of Deputy Leader for Party Affairs within the Labour Party, saying he is seeking a renewed mandate from party delegates.

In a statement, Agius Saliba said he was putting his name forward with "a sense of pride" after serving in the role for the past two years. He thanked party activists, delegates and local committees, describing them as the backbone of the Labour Party, and said he had sought to support them throughout his tenure.

He highlighted a number of initiatives undertaken during the past two years to strengthen the party, describing them as a collective effort that culminated in what he called the Labour Party's fourth consecutive general election victory three weeks ago.

While acknowledging the work already carried out, Agius Saliba said there was still much to be done. He pledged to continue dedicating his energy to the role if re-elected, alongside Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg and Prime Minister and Labour leader Robert Abela.

Concluding his statement, Agius Saliba expressed confidence that, by working together, the party could continue "writing history" and build on its recent electoral success.
