ĦAL QORMI RECORDS HIGHEST NUMBER OF ROAD ACCIDENTS FROM APRIL TO JUNE

Ħal Qormi recorded the highest number of road traffic accidents among Maltese localities during the second quarter of 2026, with 223 cases reported between April and June.

Birkirkara followed with 211 accidents, while San Pawl il-Baħar registered 209. These were the three localities with the highest number of reported road traffic accidents during the period.

Across Malta, a total of 4,072 road traffic accidents were recorded, representing a 1.1 per cent increase compared with the same quarter of 2025.

At district level, the Northern Harbour registered the highest number of accidents, with 1,340 cases, equivalent to 32.9 per cent of the national total. However, the district recorded a 1.9 per cent decrease compared with the previous year. The Western district remained unchanged, while all other districts registered increases.

The South Eastern district experienced the largest rise, with accidents increasing by 8.2 per cent.

Overall, road traffic casualties also increased, reaching 398 during the quarter, up by 16 per cent year-on-year. Three people lost their lives in road traffic accidents, while 146 people suffered grievous injuries.

The figures highlight significant differences in accident rates between Malta’s localities and districts.
