The Caritas Foundation is close to opening an aftercare residence for individuals who have reached the final stage of their drug rehabilitation programme.

This phase is considered the most sensitive, as the risk of relapse is higher, particularly for those without family support or stable accommodation. The new house in Naxxar is intended to act as a stepping stone, offering not only accommodation but also stability, dignity and a structured pathway towards reintegration into society.

The Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights, Michael Falzon, visited the residence together with the leadership of the Caritas Foundation. During the visit, he confirmed that the Government will provide financial assistance to help ensure the project becomes operational and sustainable over time.

“With Caritas we already have several agreements of this kind, amounting to millions of euro per year. We see this as an investment in that section of society which we want to give a chance to reform and eventually reintegrate in a positive way,” said Minister Falzon.

Caritas Chief Executive Anthony Gatt said the residence will offer a safe, therapeutic and empowering environment. He added that priority will be given to women, mothers and young adults who are seeking to rebuild independent lives within the community.
