AFTA Hosts Inaugural Conference To Champion Ethical Outsourcing

The Association for Temping and Outsourcing Agencies (AFTA) successfully held its first annual conference under the theme “Redefining Outsourcing: Leading the Change.” Bringing together policymakers, regulators, stakeholders, and agency representatives, the event marked a significant milestone for the sector in Malta.

With the participation of Parliamentary Secretary Dr Andy Ellul and Shadow Minister Ivan Castillo, alongside senior officials from Identità, DIER, and Jobsplus, the conference underscored the growing importance of the temping and outsourcing industry to Malta’s economy and labour market.

AFTA used the platform to reaffirm its mission to champion responsible reform — promoting higher standards, ethical employment practices, and a transparent system that works for all.

The conference addressed key issues facing the sector, such as the impact of rogue operators, regulatory uncertainty, and the persistent stigma surrounding outsourcing.

Speakers and participants echoed a shared call for balanced, enforceable reforms that support ethical agencies while holding exploitative ones to account.

The event also highlighted the critical role of temping and outsourcing in supporting Malta’s major industries — including healthcare, hospitality, logistics, and construction — by bridging skills gaps and enabling greater workforce agility.

AFTA reiterated its commitment to working with authorities to strengthen enforcement, improve licensing frameworks, and raise industry standards, all while protecting the rights of both workers and responsible employers.

More than a gathering, the conference served as a clear statement: the industry is stepping forward to lead change — collaboratively, ethically, and with a strong sense of purpose.
