AFM Rescue Swimmers Inaugurate Participation In Major NATO-Backed Disaster Exercise In Bulgaria

Two surface rescue swimmers from the Armed Forces of Malta’s Maritime Squadron have taken part in Bulgaria 2025, a large-scale emergency management exercise coordinated by the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and Bulgaria’s Directorate General Fire Safety and Civil Protection.
The exercise simulated severe natural disasters, including flooding, landslides and heavy infrastructure damage caused by extreme rainfall. It brought together over 40 participating nations, offering a high-pressure environment to test international teams’ readiness, coordination and crisis response capabilities.
Malta’s participation underscores the country’s ongoing commitment to regional and global cooperation in disaster preparedness. By engaging in international training and simulation exercises, the AFM continues to strengthen interoperability with partners, while identifying operational gaps and refining joint strategies for managing complex emergencies.
