Aditus Suggests Testing Legality Of Removing Free Public Transport For TCN’s In Court

Aditus, a ‘non-governmental organisation with the mission to monitor, report & act on access to human rights in Malta’, has suggested that it might be challenging the Budget 2027 announcement in court over its legality.

‘We’re not too sure this is legal’, wrote Aditus on social media. ‘How to test it? Well, in court!’

This follows a Budget 2027 measure which is set to make free public transport available only to Maltese and Gozitan citizens, EU citizens residing in Malta, and individuals holding long-term residency.

This means that third-country nationals who do not hold long-term residency status will no longer qualify for free public transport.

This is not the only measure set to impact foreign workers, with non-EU nationals set to face a new €83 monthly driving license fee as of 2027.
