Activists Take Beach Umbrellas To Parliament In Protest Over Public Access To Shores

Local
Activists from Friends of the Earth Malta took beach mats and umbrellas to the space in front of Parliament last Tuesday as part of a direct action calling for greater public access to Malta’s coastline.
The action was organised as part of the Save Our Shores campaign, which argues that Malta’s coastal areas and public beaches are becoming increasingly less accessible to the public.
The group reclaimed the space in front of Parliament by bringing along beach equipment as a way of highlighting the public’s right to access spaces by the sea.
The campaign is calling for Malta’s shores to be protected as a shared public resource, rather than allowing access to coastal spaces to become increasingly restricted by private businesses.
