Active Ageing Awards 2025 Celebrate Malta’s Older Community

October is a special month for older people as it is dedicated to celebrating them. Yesterday, a major hotel in St Julian’s hosted both an EXPO and the Active Ageing Awards 2025 ceremony, two events that together recognised and celebrated the commitment, talent, and valuable contribution of older people to society.
The day began with an EXPO organised by the Active Ageing Centres, which welcomed a large number of guests. Visitors had the opportunity to view work created by older participants, who, with support from staff and peers, showcased their skills in crafts, art, and other creative activities.
The event was further enriched by performances including drama, line dancing, poetry readings, singing, and dancing from members of the centres in Tas-Sliema, Naxxar, Mosta, Santa Luċija, Ħal Qormi, Valletta, Żurrieq, Mġarr, St Paul’s Bay, Marsaskala, Mellieħa, Isla, and Birgu. The EXPO also served as a platform to provide information about the services offered by Active Ageing and Care in the Community (AACC) through informative stands and informal discussions with the public.

Later in the evening, the official Active Ageing Awards 2025 ceremony took place. The event recognised individuals and groups who actively contribute to promoting active ageing in Malta. The ceremony was attended by the President of Malta, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela, and Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Malcolm Paul Agius Galea.
Minister Abela highlighted that the awards recognise the work of older people for the benefit of their peers and encouraged more older people to remain active in their communities. Parliamentary Secretary Agius Galea praised the contribution of older people and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to services that give older people a voice, knowledge, and respect.
The award winners were:
