A Successful Festa Annimali & Animal Honours Awards This Weekend!

The Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights has concluded a week dedicated to animal welfare with two successful events, the Animal Honours Awards and Festa Annimali, both aimed at promoting greater awareness and appreciation of animal protection in Malta.
The Animal Honours Awards, held on Friday 3 October, celebrated the dedication and tireless work of volunteers, professionals, and organisations that contribute daily to improving the lives of animals.
Several individuals and animals were recognised during the ceremony following public nominations and voting held over the summer.
The awards were presented by Minister Anton Refalo, Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said, Permanent Secretary Sharlo Camilleri, Commissioner for the Welfare of Animals Alison Bezzina, and Dr Lydia Abela. The initiative serves as a platform to acknowledge those who devote their time and resources to advancing animal welfare across the islands.
On Saturday 4 October, the focus shifted to Ta’ Qali, where families gathered for the third edition of Festa Annimali.
The event featured an engaging programme that included workshops, educational stands, animal shows, and live music, alongside a children’s area designed to inspire respect and empathy towards animals from a young age.
“This week was an important opportunity to celebrate animal welfare together. Through these two events, we have shown how much, as a country, we value those who dedicate their time to protecting and caring for animals. I wish to thank the volunteers, professionals, and organisations who make a difference every day”, said Minister Anton Refalo.
Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said praised the participation in Festa Annimali, particularly that of families who attended with their pets.
“Together, the Animal Honours Awards and Festa Annimali help to build greater awareness while showing appreciation for those working in the field. This once again confirms the Government’s commitment to nurturing a responsible and compassionate society towards animals.”
