“A Serious and Competitive Process”: €1.5m Cultural Fund Announced

Minister Owen Bonnici has announced the outcomes of the Investment in Cultural Organisations Fund, a programme administered by Arts Council Malta aimed at strengthening Malta’s cultural and creative landscape.

The fund will provide €1.5 million in financial support over a three-year period, covering activities scheduled between 2026 and 2028.
It is open to voluntary organisations registered with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations that demonstrate the capacity to contribute meaningfully to the sector’s long-term development.
Through this initiative, selected organisations will receive structured assistance to help them plan and deliver projects aligned with national cultural priorities.
Minister Bonnici said, “This investment reflects the clear commitment we have to provide more stability and continuity to the cultural sector, in conformity with the commitments made during the electoral process.”
Luke Dalli, Executive Chairman of Arts Council Malta, described the selection process of the organisations as rigorous and transparent, stating that, “the results which we are announcing today are the result of a serious and competitive process.”
“It is a process based on clear criteria, independent evaluation, and good governance,” continued Dalli, “These are applications from voluntary organisations which showed vision, commitment, and the potential to make a difference. We are looking at quality, artistic value, and the creative process.”

The call was divided into two strands: one focusing on capacity building, governance, and sustainability, and the other supporting recurring cultural initiatives, professional opportunities for artists, and audience engagement.
The selected organisations span diverse disciplines, including theatre, dance, visual arts, and cultural heritage, while promoting diversity, artists’ rights, and strong governance practices.
