“A Nationalist Government will always keep Gozo at its heart, not only on the eve of an election” — Alex Borg

Speaking at a political activity in Nadur, Gozo, Opposition Leader Alex Borg said that a future Nationalist Government would place Gozo at the centre of national decision-making, rather than focusing on the island only during election periods.
Addressing supporters as part of the Partit Nazzjonalista campaign A Fresh Start, Borg said that as a Gozitan he understands the daily realities faced by residents, including the challenges of commuting across the channel, the time lost in travel, and the difficulties faced by students and business owners due to limited connectivity.
He said that Gozo deserves a “fresh start” through improved connectivity, stronger job creation, a new hospital, enhanced education services, and greater respect for Gozitan identity. Borg also defended past Nationalist administrations, arguing that they delivered key infrastructure in Gozo, including a hospital, while criticising what he described as repeated unfulfilled promises by the current government.
The PN leader said that efforts are ongoing with Nationalist MEPs to secure European funding for a modern fleet between Malta and Gozo, including passenger and cargo vessels. He also pledged investment in culture through a €9 million fund, as well as a stronger focus on education, including support for neurodivergent students.
Nadur Mayor Edward Said highlighted infrastructure and connectivity challenges, saying local councils continue to operate under pressure. Deputy Mayor Kevin Curmi and entrepreneur Maureen Xerri also addressed the event, stressing the need for renewed trust in politics, stronger opportunities for families, and greater support for young people.
Councillor Eucharist Camilleri focused on services for the elderly, referencing initiatives introduced by previous Nationalist governments and proposing further measures, including free choice of doctor and home-delivered medicines.
The event formed part of the PN’s ongoing electoral campaign, which continues across Malta and Gozo in the lead-up to polling day.
