9 Year Old Boy Wins Special Recognition Award During Yearly Police Awards 2026

Nine-year-old Benjamin Debono was awarded the Special Recognition Award during the Yearly Police Awards 2026.

The annual ceremony, held as part of Police Week marking the Malta Police Force's 212th anniversary, celebrates officers, civilian staff and members of the public who have gone above and beyond in their contribution to policing.

Among the evening's winners, the Major Crimes Department received the Team Award in recognition of its operational achievements and contribution to public safety.

PC 2444 Jesred Piscopo was presented with the Health and Wellness Advocate Award for promoting fitness and wellbeing among colleagues, while Superintendent Mario Cuschieri received the Innovative Problem Solving Award for introducing a digital system that streamlined official travel requests.

Inspector Ryan Vella claimed the Best Social Media Photo Award, while PC1516 Jozef Saliba was named Rising Star in recognition of his professionalism during his first two years of service.

PC1531 Ivan Caruana received the Lifetime Achievement Award, with Assistant Commissioner Fabian Fleri honoured with the Outstanding Leadership Award.

Mayor of Birgu John Boxall took home the Police and Community Partnership Award for his support of community policing, while Brandon Agius was named Police Civilian of the Year.

The Police Officer of the Year Award went to PS 1194 Christopher Debrincat for his bravery in rescuing a girl from a burning residence in Mosta.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner's Certificate of Commendation was presented to 12 officers for acts of courage and selflessness.

Special recognition was also given to former Sergeant Major Joseph Borg and Heritage Malta for their contributions towards the establishment of the new Malta Police Museum, alongside young Benjamin.
