81% Of Investors Consider Malta An Attractive Destination For Direct Foreign Investment, Says PM

Some 81% of foreign investors consider Malta an attractive destination for foreign direct investment, while nine out of ten companies plan to maintain or expand their operations in the country over the next year, according to the Malta Attractiveness Survey 2026 commissioned by Ernst & Young (EY).
Speaking at the launch of the survey, Prime Minister Robert Abela said the results represent an improvement on last year and demonstrate continued confidence in Malta's economy.
He described the finding that nine out of ten companies intend to remain or continue investing in Malta as the survey's most significant result, saying it reflects investors' confidence in the country's future.
The survey also found growing confidence in artificial intelligence, with 59% of investors identifying AI as one of the sectors expected to drive Malta's economic growth, up from 47% a year earlier.
AI was also identified as the sector with the strongest long-term growth potential.
Prime Minister Abela said the findings support the Government's national AI strategy and initiatives such as AI for Everyone, which has attracted more than 40,000 participants. He also referred to the €100 million investment in digital transformation announced in the previous Budget, saying the commitment will continue.
He added that Malta's next stage of economic growth should focus increasingly on productivity, innovation and higher value-added investment.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to maintaining energy and fuel subsidies, with €400 million allocated this year and another €400 million planned for next year. He said the EY survey reinforces confidence in Malta's economic direction and the country's long-term investment strategy.
