8 Persons Arrested & Over 28 Kilos Of Drugs Confiscated In Two Separate Busts

The Maltese Police Force continued to intensify its fight against organised crime and drug trafficking through two separate operations that took place in Malta and Gozo recently.

These led to the arrest of eight persons and the confiscation of more than 20 kilos of a substance suspected to heroin and over 8 kilos of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

In the first confiscation, police followed information related to a prior investigation where a 49 year old man was arrested after he was found in possession of suspected heroin.

During the investigations, it was discovered that the same person was renting a Żurrieq garage. The man was escorted under arrest there, where the police found wooden panels stuck together where a fake compartment was found.

In the garage there was a van with the same panels, where police found 7.7 kilograms of suspected cocaine and 20.7 kilograms filled with suspected heroin, along with other trafficking related equipment.

In another operation in Gozo, police conducted surveillance on two spots, in Qala and Rabat, which were being allegedly used for the storage and trafficking of drugs.

Yesterday evening, police entered the areas and three persons were arrested. Two others who arrived later were arrested.

One attempted to flee but was caught immediately after he tossed a bag of 8 packets of suspected cocaine. From the Rabat residence, two persons were also arrested. More searches yielded a kilogram of suspected cocaine, along with smaller amounts of drugs.

During the Gozo operation, seven persons were arrested in total, six men and one woman.
