75 New Trees To Be Planted In Triq Bur Il-Kbir Area In Siġġiewi

A total of 75 new trees will be planted in the Triq Bur il-Kbir area in Siġġiewi as part of the environmental measures accompanying a road widening project being carried out by Infrastructure Malta.

The project is aimed at improving road safety and reducing congestion in the area through a series of infrastructural upgrades, including the widening of the carriageway and the reconstruction of rubble walls. As part of the works, 15 small cypress trees will be removed from the site.

Infrastructure Malta said that for every cypress tree removed, five new trees will be planted, resulting in a total of 75 new trees being introduced to the area. These will include 21 cypress trees and 54 olive trees.

The agency explained that 21 cypress trees will be replanted in the same field where the existing trees are being removed, helping to maintain the landscape character and vegetation that has long been associated with the area.

A further 54 olive trees will be planted nearby, increasing the number of trees and contributing to the environmental value of the surrounding countryside.

Infrastructure Malta will provide and plant all the trees as part of the project. Following the planting process, responsibility for their maintenance will be transferred to the new owners of the fields.

The agency said the project reflects the approach of combining investment in road infrastructure with environmental measures. While the improvements to Triq Bur il-Kbir are intended to strengthen connectivity and safety, the project also includes measures designed to increase greenery and enhance the rural landscape.

Through the planting of 75 new trees, the area will gain additional vegetation while maintaining important elements of its existing character.

The new cypress and olive trees are expected to contribute to a greener and more environmentally valuable landscape in Siġġiewi.
