7 Stages Of Realising Summer Is Ending In Malta
Local

It slowly disappears while we all collectively pretend it isn’t happening.

Here are the seven stages of accepting that summer is coming to an end.

1. Denial

“It’s still 30 degrees.”

Technically correct. You’re still going to the beach, still sleeping with the AC on and still regretting wearing anything heavier than a T-shirt.

Summer is definitely not over.

2. The Traffic Returns

Then one morning, your usual 15-minute drive suddenly takes 45.

Schools are reopening, offices are filling back up and everyone appears to have decided to leave home at exactly the same time. Reality has returned.

3. Someone Says “Winter Is Coming”

It’s 31°C outside. You’re sweating.

And somehow, someone has already said: “You can feel winter coming.” No. You cannot.

4. The First Hoodie Appears

Every September, one brave Maltese person decides the temperature has dropped enough to wear a hoodie. It has not.

They are visibly overheating but fully committed to the autumn aesthetic.

5. Everyone Suddenly Becomes Productive

August emails that received absolutely no response suddenly come back to life. Meetings are being scheduled.

Deadlines exist again. Your calendar starts looking threatening.

6. Christmas Starts Appearing

You’re still considering a Sunday at Għadira and somewhere, somehow, a shop is already preparing Christmas decorations.

Within weeks, someone will casually ask: “What are you doing for New Year’s?” Please relax.

7. Acceptance

Eventually, you accept it. The parties slow down. The evenings get slightly shorter.

The routines return. And everyone starts saying the same thing: “Summer flew by.”

Even though we’ve spent the last four months complaining that it was too hot. Until next year.
