7 ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES REGISTERED BETWEEN JULY & SEPTEMBER 2025

During the third quarter of 2025, the number of road traffic accidents decreased while the number of casualties rose when compared with the same period in 2024.
A total of seven fatalities were recorded. Reported accidents reached 3,916, representing a decline of 10.9%.
The Northern Harbour district registered the highest number of incidents, with 1,278 cases, equivalent to 32.6% of all accidents.
Road traffic casualties totalled 391, an increase of 0.8% over the previous year. Of these, 131 persons were grievously injured, including 79 drivers, 15 passengers and 37 pedestrians or cyclists.
Fatal injuries were sustained by four drivers, two passengers and one pedestrian, amounting to two more deaths than the same quarter in 2024.
Men accounted for the majority of grievous injuries, representing 71.8% of the total, while fatalities included four males and three females. The age group most affected was 26 to 40 years, comprising 31.2% of casualties.
Passenger cars were involved in 50.9% of incidents, followed by motorcycles at 39.1% and goods vehicles at 3.8%.
Cyclists were involved in ten accidents, with six suffering grievous injuries.
Sundays saw the highest number of casualties at 69, while the largest number of accidents occurred on Tuesdays with 690 cases.
The busiest period was between noon and 14:59, with 931 accidents. Birkirkara recorded the most accidents at 224. All districts saw a decline in accidents except Gozo and Comino, where incidents increased slightly.
