68% Of Maltese People Lived In Their Own Home In 2024: 31% Rented

According to information shared by Eurostat, 68.1% of the Maltese population owned their home, whereas 31.9% lived in rented housing in 2024.
This places Malta right on the EU average of two-thirds (68%) owning their home, which is slightly down from 69% in 2023.
As for Malta, the rate of home ownership was 74.7% in 2023, which shows a significant drop from 2024’s 68.1%. Meanwhile, 25.3% rented their housing in 2023, increasing to 31.9% in 2024.
The remaining EU population, at 32% live in rented housing. The highest shares of home ownership was observed in Romania at 94%, followed by Slovakia and Hungary at 93% and 92%.
The lowest rates were registered in Germany at 47%, followed by Austria and Denmark at 55% and 61%.
