68.2% Of Youth In Malta Get Their News From Facebook: 63.5% From Instagram

According to the State of the Nation survey, 50.1% of Maltese use Facebook as their go-to source to get news, with younger generations being more likely to do so.
In 2026, respondents revealed that, after Facebook, their go to source for news was the TV at 45.8%, whereas only 1.6% use printed newspapers.
15.4% of all ages use Instagram as their news source, whereas 10.8% use TikTok. The latter is an increase from 8.7% in 2025.
Meanwhile, the 16 to 25 year old cohort was most likely to use Facebook to get their news at 68.2%. They were also prone to using Instagram to get news at 64.5% and 52% from TikTok.
No 16 to 25 year old responded as using newspapers to get their news, as opposed to the 66+ year old group, which registered the highest use at 3.2%.
The latter group said they get their news mostly from television, followed, again, by Facebook at 24%.
Overall, Facebook was the most used social media site in Malta at 81.2%, followed by Instagram at 46.2% and TikTok at 37.9%.
16 to 25 year olds were most likely to use Instagram at 98%, followed by Facebook at 91.2% and TikTok at 89.1%.
