’62 Years Since Malta Made A Courageous Decision’: Roberta Metsola On Independence Day

’62 years ago, the Maltese and Gozitan people made a courageous decision’, said European Parliament President Roberta Metsola in a special message marking Malta’s Independence Day.

The decision saw Malta becoming a sovereign nation that can make its own decisions, continued Metsola.

‘However Independence brought with it responsibility. How are we using the liberty we achieved that day today’, she asked.‘What country do we want to leave to the next generation?’

‘We do not celebrate Independence one day a year, but everyday through our decisions as a country, together.’

‘In our decision to care for our culture and our identity. In our decision to build a sustainable economy and have a just society.’

‘Let’s celebrate what we achieved 62 years ago but look forward to what we have yet to do.’
