6 Years Ago Today, The World Went Into Lockdown

Six years ago, the world changed almost overnight.
In March 2020, countries across the globe began entering lockdown as the COVID-19 pandemic spread rapidly.
Governments introduced strict measures to slow the spread of the virus, including travel bans, business closures, remote working and limits on social gatherings.
For many people, it was the first time in modern history that everyday life came to such an abrupt halt.
Streets Fell Silent
Cities that were once full of life suddenly grew quiet. Airports emptied, restaurants shut their doors and schools moved to online learning.
In Malta, restrictions also began reshaping daily routines. Public health measures were introduced, large events were cancelled and people were encouraged to stay at home as authorities worked to control the spread of the virus.
What once seemed unthinkable quickly became part of everyday life.
A Global Shift In Daily Life
The pandemic forced millions of people to adapt to a different way of living. Remote work and online meetings became part of daily routines, while families spent more time at home than ever before.

Activities such as meeting friends, attending events or travelling abroad suddenly became uncertain or impossible.
For many, the lockdown period also became a time of reflection, resilience and community support.
Looking Back Six Years Later
Six years on, the lockdown remains one of the most defining global moments of the 21st century.
It reshaped how people work, communicate and think about public health, leaving lasting changes that continue to influence everyday life today.
