5th Edition Of The Startup Festival: American Company To Open Studio In Malta

During the opening of the Startup Festival, held today and tomorrow at Montekristo Estate, Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri announced that the American company Wevr will be opening a studio in Malta. Wevr, based in Los Angeles, is renowned for its work in immersive and interactive digital experiences.
Minister Schembri said that Wevr’s decision to expand into Europe and choose Malta reflects strong confidence in the country’s creative and digital industries. By combining Wevr’s international expertise with Malta’s dynamic ecosystem in film, video game development and digital media, the Government aims to create high-quality jobs, develop local talent and open new opportunities for young entrepreneurs.

Speaking about the Startup Festival, now in its fifth edition, Minister Schembri described it as a unique platform that brings together the entire startup ecosystem. He said it unites government entities, investors, entrepreneurs, established startups and many young people with ambitious ideas. These, he added, can become successful ventures through the support available in Malta. The Minister also linked the Festival to Malta Vision 2050, highlighting how emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, green technology, medtech, data and sustainable innovation are driving growth and creating new opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan youth.
Minister Schembri emphasised that the Startup Festival continues to serve as a benchmark for innovation, creativity and collaboration, sending a strong message that Malta’s economic future relies on the ideas and partnerships of its people.
Malta Enterprise CEO George Gregory said the Festival has become a flagship event on the national innovation calendar. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, it offers two days of networking, learning and collaboration.
