57 Arrested in Coordinated Immigration and Human Trafficking Investigation

A total of 57 people have been arrested following an investigation into irregular immigration and human trafficking in Marsa, Ħamrun and Paola.

Home Affairs Minister Glenn Bedingfield said the operation resulted in 35 arrests in Marsa, 17 in Ħamrun and five in Paola.

According to Bedingfield, the individuals arrested come from countries across South America, Africa and Asia.

The investigation was carried out through coordinated work between the Malta Police Force’s Immigration Police and the Detention Services Department, as part of ongoing efforts to tackle irregular immigration and human trafficking.

Bedingfield said the operation forms part of continuous work being carried out by the authorities in the fight against human trafficking and irregular immigration.

The latest arrests come as Maltese authorities continue to conduct enforcement operations aimed at identifying people who may be involved in trafficking networks, as well as addressing cases involving irregular immigration.
