56 Activities By Local Councils For The Christmas Season
Throughout December, 56 Christmas-themed activities will be organised across Malta and Gozo. Coordinated by the Local Councils with support from the Local Government Division, the programme has received funding of over €800,000. The initiative was announced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, and the Director General of the Local Government Division, Emile Vassallo. A total of 42 activities will take place in Malta and 14 in Gozo, with some events beginning in the final week of November and continuing until 6 January.
Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli highlighted that the scheme has grown in popularity and funding this year. She explained that through the Local Government Division, the government is ensuring that residents across both islands can enjoy festive activities within their own communities. Councils are now better equipped not only to deliver social and infrastructural projects but also to host cultural and seasonal events, helping to strengthen community bonds and local engagement.
Director General Emile Vassallo emphasised that the Division is working closely with the Councils to ensure that events are of a high standard and sustainable year after year. This year, the Division will cover one third of the total costs to reduce the financial burden on Local Councils, enabling them to focus on delivering engaging and successful events.
The initiative aims to provide residents with accessible, high-quality seasonal activities that promote participation and celebration across all communities. By supporting Local Councils, the government ensures these events are professionally organised, inclusive, and enjoyable for families throughout Malta and Gozo.
Events will be held in the following localities: Ħ’Attard, Ħal Balzan, il-Mellieħa, il-Mosta, in-Naxxar, San Ġwann, San Pawl il-Baħar, l-Imtarfa, Birkirkara, il-Gżira, Ħal Għargħur, Ħal Lija, l-Imsida, San Ġiljan, is-Swieqi, il-Birgu, l-Isla, Bormla, Ħaż-Żabbar, il-Fgura, il-Furjana, il-Kalkara, Raħal Ġdid, Ħal Tarxien, ix-Xgħajra, Ħal Qormi, iż-Żejtun, Birżebbuġa, il-Gudja, Ħal Għaxaq, Ħal Luqa, il-Marsa, Marsaskala, Marsaxlokk, Santa Luċija, Santa Venera, is-Siġġiewi, Ħal Kirkop, l-Imqabba, il-Qrendi, ir-Rabat, iż-Żurrieq, ir-Rabat, il-Fontana, Għajnsielem, l-Għarb, l-Għasri, Ta’ Kerċem, il-Munxar, in-Nadur, il-Qala, San Lawrenz, Ta’ Sannat, ix-Xagħra, ix-Xewkija, iż-Żebbuġ.
