In a conference, Minister for Social and Affordable Housing, Roderick Galdes, spoke about the latest studies by the Housing Authority as well as the authority’s annual report for the year 2024.

Galdes explained how the work being carried out in the social and affordable housing sector has made a tangible difference in the daily lives of many families.

The report states that during 2024, a record number of social housing allocations were made, showing that around 550 new allocations were completed.

Galdes also emphasised that “all of this continues to bode well for addressing the waiting list, in line with Vision Malta 2050. From 2017 to 2024, the waiting list has been reduced by almost half. This has been made possible thanks to new construction, the Rent-to-Buy scheme, as well as extensive work on dilapidated properties, including abandoned ones that are now being reused for social purposes.”

He highlighted that more than 12,300 families benefited from the Housing Authority’s schemes throughout 2024.
