500 Public Officials Receive LGBTIQ+ Equality Training

As part of Pride Week, the Parliamentary Secretariat for Equality and Reforms presented a report on the implementation of Malta’s National LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy and Action Plan. The initiative aims to develop tools and training that integrate equality and human rights across all sectors of public administration.
The report was shared during a conference organised by the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression, and Sex Characteristics (SOGIGESC) Unit, under the theme Belonging: Equality in Everyday Life.
Parliamentary Secretary for Equality and Reforms Rebecca Buttigieg stated,“It is clear that in the international political climate we live in, equality is not guaranteed. Equality is not something we achieve once and place on a shelf. It is something we must continue to work for, protect when threatened, and strengthen when gaps appear. Our strategy encourages us to move beyond symbolism and ensure that every policy, service, and public space reflects the principle of dignity for all.”
Over the past 12 months, Aaron Giardina, Human Rights Directorate official, reported that training has been delivered to 500 public officials, including educators, police officers, and staff at St Vincent de Paul Residence, covering topics related to LGBTIQ+ equality.
