During the Carnival period, 50 activities will be held in various localities across Malta and Gozo, as the Directorate for Local Government is once again providing financial support to Local Councils to enable them to organise seasonal activities within their communities.

This was announced by the Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government, Owen Bonnici, together with the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, who explained that a total of €250,000 has been allocated to this scheme.

It was noted that Carnival is one of the oldest cultural events in Malta. During these days, numerous streets and squares are filled with colour, music and spectacle, creating a lively atmosphere enjoyed by families in localities across Malta and Gozo, as well as by tourists who visit the country specifically to experience these celebrations.

Minister Owen Bonnici emphasised that Carnival remains one of the country’s most cherished traditions, continuing to strengthen the sense of community.

He stated that around 50 activities will be organised in different localities across Malta and Gozo, offering varied entertainment for all ages.

This is made possible through the ongoing commitment of the Directorate for Local Government, which is once again supporting Local Councils financially so that they can deliver high quality seasonal activities that promote culture, participation and unity within communities.

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that the scheme has been relaunched for Carnival 2026 to help Local Councils preserve and strengthen this tradition, in line with Vision Malta 2050.
