Five fatal accidents at work were reported between July and December 2025, according to the Occupational Health and Safety Authority.

In 2025, the incidence rate of fatal workplace accidents stood at 2.7 per 100,000 persons in employment.

During the same six month period, 1,073 non fatal accidents at work were recorded, representing a decrease of 30 cases compared with the corresponding period in 2024.

The construction sector accounted for the largest share at 15.5%, followed by manufacturing at 14.4%. Human health and social work activities and transport and storage each made up 10.3% of reported cases.

Nearly 30% of injured workers were absent from work for between 7 and 13 days.

Elementary occupations registered the highest proportion of accidents at 28.7%, followed by craft and related trades workers at 21.1%.

Workers aged 25 to 34 accounted for 26.6% of cases, while almost 70.0% of those involved were Maltese nationals.

More than 30% of injuries affected the back, including the spine and vertebrae.

Wounds and superficial injuries were the most common type, totalling 650 cases, followed by dislocations, sprains and strains at 323 cases.

Enterprises employing between 50 and 249 workers accounted for 28.1% of accidents, while 25.1% occurred in firms with 500 or more employees. Overall, 640 non fatal accidents per 100,000 employed persons were recorded in 2025.
