Malta International Airport recorded a strong first half of 2026, with passenger traffic continuing to grow as the airport expanded its route network and welcomed increased airline capacity.

Between January and June 2026, the airport registered 5.2 million passenger movements, representing a 15.6% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

The growth was supported by strong demand throughout both the winter and summer seasons, with airlines continuing to add capacity across key markets.

During the first quarter of the year, passenger traffic increased by 15.4% year on year, as airlines offered 2.6 million seats, an increase of 14.1%.

The average seat load factor reached 81.1%, showing sustained demand despite the additional capacity.

This positive trend continued into the summer season, when nearly 3.8 million seats were made available between April and June, marking an 18.8% rise over 2025.

Passenger traffic during this period grew by 15.7%, while the seat load factor remained strong at 83.7%.

The United Kingdom remained Malta International Airport’s largest market, accounting for 20% of passenger traffic during the first half of the year. UK traffic grew by 14.6%, supported by new and expanded services from airlines including Jet2, Ryanair and easyJet.

Italy also recorded growth of 8.5%, with Rome Fiumicino becoming the airport’s busiest route following increased services by Wizz Air, ITA, KM Malta Airlines and Ryanair.

Poland emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets, with passenger traffic rising by 52.4% thanks to continued route expansion and increased connectivity.
