48% Of Gamers Are Women, New Study Finds

Almost half of video game players worldwide are women, according to the Entertainment Software Association’s 2025 Global Power of Play report.
The study found that 48% of gamers identify as female, showing a growing inclusivity and diversity within the global gaming community.
Compiled in partnership with industry bodies such as UKIE, Video Games Europe, and the International Games and Entertainment Association, the report surveyed over 24,000 active players aged 16 and above across 21 countries.

ESA president Stanley Pierre-Louis noted that women outnumber men among players in 10 countries, with Brazil and South Africa among those showing the largest female majorities at 57% and 58% respectively.
Mobile gaming emerged as the most popular platform overall, preferred by 55% of respondents and by 64% of women in particular.
However, nearly half of male players also favour mobile devices, narrowing the traditional gender divide in gaming habits.
The report also explored the reasons people play games, with 66% citing fun as their main motivation, followed by stress relief and mental stimulation. Players widely believed gaming improved creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
