4 Maltese Firefighters Assist With Wildfire In Portugal

Four Maltese fighters assisted Portuguese forces in controlling a large fire in Mouriscas.
These members of Malta’s Civil Protection Department are deployed in Portugal as part of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism’s wildfire pre-positioning programme, aimed at allocating resources to areas susceptible to wildfires during the summer months.
Mouriscas’ wildfire required 400 firefighters, 160 fire engines, and 14 aerial resources to bring it under control. The Maltese officers reportedly assisted FECP forces with the operation, “supporting firefighting and containment operations.”
