In work carried out by police, assisted by Detention Services Agency officials, 34 persons were detained after they were found living in Malta illegally on Friday.

The inspections took place in Blata l-Bajda and Rabat public spaces, with the persons hailing from Nigeria, Ghana, India, Gambia, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

The persons are currently detained in a detention centre as the repatriation process begins.

Meanwhile, two persons hailing from East Africa were repatriated to their country of origin after they were found to be living in Malta irregularly.

The persons were also restricted from re-entering the Schengen Area. They were kept in a detention centre under the Detention Services Agency until the repatriation process was completed.
