300 New Students Start Academic Year At Institute Of Tourism Studies

The Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) has begun the 2026–2027 academic year with 300 new students, marking a new chapter in the Institute’s history and the start of its 2026–2030 Strategy, “From Consolidation to Mediterranean Excellence”.
ITS is also continuing to strengthen its international profile, with more than 60 students studying through the Zhengzhou campus and more than 50 through the Shanghai campus. For the first time, students who began their studies in China are continuing them in Malta, while students from Austria are also being welcomed.
The development reflects the ongoing commitment to invest in education, skills and professional growth as key pillars for the future of tourism.
In his speech, Minister for Tourism Jo Etienne Abela said the Government’s aim is clear, that every student should leave ITS not only with a qualification, but also with the skills, confidence and experience needed to contribute meaningfully to the tourism sector in Malta and beyond.
He said ITS’s 40th anniversary is proof of the value of investing in people and skills, which have helped strengthen Malta’s tourism sector over the years.
He added that the anniversary should also serve as a starting point for a more ambitious vision for the next 40 years, in line with Malta Vision 2050.
ITS Chief Executive Pierre Fenech said the Institute is entering a new phase of development, with programmes that remain relevant to industry needs and with new opportunities for students.
He said the latest developments show how international collaboration is growing and creating new pathways for the ITS community.
