3 Regiment Of AFM Strengthens Combat Engineer Capability

The 3 Regiment of the Armed Forces of Malta completed its second Combat Engineer Trade Course of 2026, strengthening the specialised capability within the AFM.

Combat Engineers are specialised soldiers who support land forces by ensuring mobility, constructing defensive positions and managing various battlefield hazards.

They also enhance troop safety by constructing or removing obstacles according to operational requirements.

‘The training programme concluded with a comprehensive and complex “𝑹𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒐𝒂𝒅 𝑪𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆” exercise conducted in a simulated conflict environment’, the AFM explained.

‘This exercise served as the culmination of the entire training programme, during which participants were required to apply the skills and knowledge acquired throughout the course while working under pressure, within strict time constraints and in challenging weather conditions and high temperatures.’
