3 Maltese To Drive 15 Overlooked Dogs To Ireland

Three Maltese women, Althea Galea, Rosaria Gerada from Our Rescues Foundation, and Claire Mifsud, are preparing for a 3,500 kilometre overland journey from Malta to Ireland on 10 December.
Their mission is to personally transport 15 overlooked dogs, many of them bully breeds that have spent far too long waiting for a chance at a safe and happy life.
Rosaria and Althea have been working together since 2023 to relocate dogs that have no prospects in Malta. Their work has already saved many animals that would otherwise remain in overcrowded kennels.
Rosaria made a life-altering decision for these dogs when she sold everything she owned in Malta to buy land and a home in Ireland, creating a dedicated sanctuary for long-stay rescues and bull breeds that are often ignored.
In 2023 she completed her first major mission, transporting 20 dogs and 10 cats from Malta to Ireland, and has continued sending smaller groups through licensed transporters.
With no kennels in Malta, the rescue relies entirely on private boarding, which adds to the financial strain.
The upcoming journey will include long-stay government kennel dogs, bully breeds with medical needs, traumatised dogs not yet ready for adoption, and fully adoptable dogs overlooked because of size or breed.
The route will take them from Malta to Sicily, Genoa, mainland Europe and finally Ireland.
The mission is self funded, and public support will help cover transport, veterinary paperwork, food and other essential costs, bringing these dogs closer to safety and a real future.
