At the Public Service Expo Village 25, held at MFCC Ta’ Qali, three new collective agreements were signed, each covering a different group of public sector employees.

The agreements, signed in the presence of Prime Minister Robert Abela and Head of the Public Service Tony Sultana, relate to employees in the ICT stream, social workers within the public service, and staff at the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD).

The sectoral agreement for the ICT stream introduces enhancements to entry-level grades and establishes a structured career path supported by ongoing training.

It also features a new scheme launched by the Institute for the Public Service to attract students to the ICT field. Around 270 employees will benefit from improved existing allowances and the introduction of new ones, aligned with grade and responsibility.

The agreement for social workers in the public service further invests in a profession that supports vulnerable groups in education, mental health, elderly care, and through the Employee Support Programme.

Approximately 40 workers will see improvements in their career progression, along with enhanced and new allowances. A key feature is a mechanism aimed at encouraging students to pursue careers in this field.

The MCESD agreement is the first for employees involved in social dialogue and socio-economic development. It formalises salary structures and allowances while also offering career progression opportunities.

The agreement highlights the effectiveness of social dialogue in delivering better employment conditions, even in challenging and evolving work environments.
