According to information tabled in parliament, three bodies of deceased individuals were left ‘unclaimed’ as of the start of 2026.
Unclaimed corpses are those of deceased persons whose family or next-of-kin cannot be located or who cannot afford to take responsibility for burial.
Authorities usually perform investigations to locate next-of-kin before giving the body a state-funded burial.
The answer was tabled by Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela in response to PN MP Ivan Bartolo.
