2nd Edition Of Platt Fil-Pjazza Paola Celebrates Local Produce In Raħal Ġdid

The second edition of Platt fil-Pjazza Paola will bring together the local community for an evening celebrating traditional Maltese food, local produce and the people who work behind the country’s agricultural sector.

Organised by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply in collaboration with the Public Abattoir and the Paola Local Council, the event will take place on Saturday 19 September 2026 at Antoine De Paule Square, Paola, from 7.30pm onwards.

Following the success of its first edition, Platt fil-Pjazza Paola will once again provide an opportunity for families and visitors to enjoy an evening featuring food, drinks and entertainment, while highlighting the importance of supporting local farmers, livestock breeders and producers.

The event aims to promote Malta’s gastronomic heritage and encourage greater appreciation of the quality, freshness and variety of local products.

Through this initiative, consumers will have the chance to learn more about the work involved in producing the food found on Maltese tables and the importance of sustaining local agriculture.

This year’s edition will also form part of the Malta Sustainable Development Action Days 2026, with a focus on sustainability, local production and the responsible use of resources.

As part of the event, the portico of the Basilica of Christ the King will be open to the public, allowing visitors to enjoy panoramic views of Paola from this historic location.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Supply Anton Refalo said the return of the event reflects ongoing efforts to bring local produce closer to consumers.

He highlighted the importance of helping families discover the quality of Maltese products while recognising the dedication of farmers, livestock breeders and producers.

The Minister said the Government will continue creating opportunities for local producers, strengthening links between producers and consumers, and promoting Maltese products as high-quality goods.

Public Abattoir Director General Stefan Cachia said that the event also offers an opportunity for the public to better understand the work carried out throughout the meat production chain.

He explained that initiatives such as this help highlight the importance of the sector while promoting practices that add value to products and encourage responsible use of resources.

Paola Mayor Jason Silvio and Councillor Darren Lynch welcomed the initiative, saying that events such as Platt fil-Pjazza Paola help bring more life to the square and strengthen community participation.
