27-YEAR-OLD TRUCK DRIVER DIES AFTER COLLISION IN QORMI

A 27-year-old Indian truck driver has died following a collision with a trailer in Qormi on Monday morning.

The accident occurred at around 11:45am on Triq Ħandaq, with members of the Civil Protection Department called to the scene shortly afterwards.

Despite the emergency response, the driver was certified dead at the scene.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the truck collided with a DAF CF85 trailer being driven by a 39-year-old man from Tarxien.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision are ongoing and are being carried out in collaboration with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority.

Magistrate Monica Borg Galea has been appointed to lead a magisterial inquiry into the incident.

The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances that led to the collision and determine the sequence of events prior to the fatal crash.
