234 Officers, Firefighters Battled Storm Harry Over 50+ Hours

Civil Protection Malta released their internal statistics of what was needed to combat Storm Harry and keep the Maltese islands safe during the storm.

‘More than 597 emergency calls were received via 112 during the storm’s peak’, explained CPD. ‘Storm Harry was one of the most powerful and destructive weather systems to affect the central Mediterranean in recent years.’

The statistics show how there were 240 tree obstructions that needed to be addressed, along with 119 debris clearance operations and 61 electrical hazards.

There were 27 cases of persons trapped in vehicles, 3 vehicle fires, as well as 1 person locked in a lift and another high angle rescue.

It took 234 officers and firefighters, 142 fire engines, 18 NGO & voluntary firefighters and 55 hours of operation to manage the storm.
