22 Spot Checks On Over 1,500 Y-Plates & Taxis Between February & May

According to information tabled in parliament, between February and May 2026, 22 spot checks were carried out, during which more than 1,500 taxi and Y-plate vehicles were inspected.

During the same period, authorities took action to suspend, revoke, or cancel licenses, or carried out investigations involving 96 Y-plate operators.

There were no suspensions, revocations or investigations involving taxi operators.

It was announced earlier this week that, when comparing the period between February and May 2025 with the same period in 2026, the number of active operators increased from 2,049 to 2,419, representing an increase of 18.1%.

During the same period, the number of trips rose from 3,008,367 to 5,061,576, an increase of more than two million journeys, or 68.2%.

On average, the number of trips per operator increased from around 1,469 between February and May 2025 to around 2,093 during the same period in 2026. This represents an average increase of approximately 624 journeys, or 42.5%, per operator.
