200 Public Sector Cultural Workers To Benefit From Improved Working Conditions

Ministry for Culture, the Arts and Local Government, the People and Standards Division, and the Malta Council for the Arts have announced the completion of an administrative process that will improve working conditions for 200 public sector employees in the cultural field.

The directive establishes a unified salary structure that ensures equality, transparency, and sustainability across all cultural entities directly involved in the management and promotion of the arts.

These entities include the Malta Council for the Arts, the National Agency for the Performing Arts (Żfin Malta, Teatru Malta, Kor Malta), Pjazza Teatru Rjal, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Spazju Kreattiv, Festivals Malta, Teatru Manoel, the Valletta Cultural Agency, and MICAS.
Minister for Culture, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici said the initiative reinforces the Government’s commitment to a professional and respected artistic sector. “This measure recognises the passion and skills of public employees in creative fields, offering greater opportunities and supporting a sustainable creative ecosystem. Our goal is for the arts in Malta to remain a vibrant, inclusive, and inspiring force for the community,” he said.
The new mechanism provides a salary framework secured until 2029, ensuring financial stability for years to come.
Luke Dalli, Executive Chairman of the Malta Council for the Arts, added, “This directive is more than an administrative document. It is a declaration of trust and respect for all arts and culture professionals who enrich Malta’s social, educational, and cultural life. It guarantees that passion for the arts will now be matched by fairness in pay.”
