New data highlighting the global Maltese diaspora has revealed that Australia is home to by far the largest Maltese community living abroad, with an estimated population of 200,000 people of Maltese descent.

The infographic, shared by Maps.Interlude, outlines the countries with the highest Maltese populations outside Malta, showcasing the far-reaching impact of migration over the decades.

Canada and the United States follow Australia, with around 42,000 and 41,000 Maltese descendants respectively, while the United Kingdom is home to roughly 40,000.

Italy also hosts a significant Maltese population of around 31,000 people, reflecting the close historical and cultural ties between the two Mediterranean nations. Smaller communities can also be found in Turkey, South Africa, Germany, Tunisia and Brazil.

The figures offer a snapshot of how Maltese migration has shaped communities across the world, with generations continuing to preserve their Maltese identity abroad.
