2 New Wards In Mount Carmel Officially Inaugurated Following A €7.7 Million Investment

The two wards forming Block 1 at Mount Carmel Hospital have been officially inaugurated following a €7.7 million investment aimed at strengthening acute mental health services in Malta. Of the total investment, €5 million was financed through European funds.
The new modern facility provides 46 beds and has been designed to offer a safe, therapeutic and patient-centred environment focused on recovery and wellbeing. The first patients are expected to be admitted in the coming days, according to a timeline agreed upon by psychiatric and nursing experts.
A therapeutic garden located next to the building is also set to open shortly, providing patients with a secure outdoor space to support rehabilitation and mental wellbeing.
Health and Active Ageing Minister Jo Etienne Abela said the project reflects continued investment in high-quality mental healthcare infrastructure, while European Funds Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi highlighted its sustainability and energy-efficient design.
