2 Men In Vicinity Of Magħtab Explosion Hospitalised For Light Injuries & Shock

The Malta Police Force have confirmed with the person responsible for the fireworks factory that the licensed workers at the site had been contacted and confirmed that none of them were present at the premises at the time of the incident.

A 67-year-old man and a 47-year-old man, both residents of St Paul's Bay and who were in nearby fields at the time of the explosion, were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, among others, primarily due to shock.

Both were later certified as having sustained minor injuries.

The Police, with the assistance of the Civil Protection Department, the Armed Forces of Malta and medical personnel, remain on site to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.

Magistrate Dr Joe Mifsud LL.D. is leading the inquiry, while the appeal for the public to avoid the area remains in force.
