2.8% Of Maltese Can’t Afford A Car For Personal Use

According to Eurostat, 2.8% of Maltese couldn’t afford a car for personal use in 2025, below the EU average of 5.5%.
This was slight increase from 2.1% in 2024, which itself was an increase from 1.6% in 2023.
The highest share of persons unable to afford a vehicle was registered in Finland at 11.3% of people, with Hungary and Bulgaria following at 10.4% and 10%.
Cyprus registered the lowest amount at 1.6%, followed by Slovenia and Croatia at 1.7% and 2.6% respectively.
