According to information tabled in parliament, 2025 saw a total of 2,174 cases of domestic violence registered with the Malta Police Force.

This was slightly down from 2024, which saw 2,225 cases, but up from 2023 which saw 2071 cases.

2021 and 2022 saw a lower rate of cases registered at 1,741 and 1828 respectively.

Women registered as victims the highest amount of domestic abuse cases in many localities, with the peak climbing to 117 in St Paul’s Bay in 2025. 34 male victims also reported domestic abuse in 2025 from the same locality and Mosta, the peak for men that year.

In responding to the question, Minister Byron Camilleri said that in 2020, the Malta Police Force inaugurated for the first time a specialised squad on Gender Based and Domestic Violence, to improve aid to victims.

Hubs were opened in Santa Luċija and another in Gozo, with work being completed in another one in Imtarfa. Another hub is set to open and start operations.
