Malta Police Force, in collaboration with Heritage Malta, has completed the first phase of the renovation of the Police Museum at Police Headquarters in Floriana.

The project forms part of a wider effort to preserve and modernise the presentation of the Force’s historical heritage while making it more accessible to both officers and the general public.

The museum was relocated to the centre of Police Headquarters in 2023, with the intention of placing the Force’s history at the heart of one of Malta’s most important public institutions.

Following a collaboration agreement signed with Heritage Malta in 2024, work began on redesigning and professionally interpreting the museum in a more structured and interactive way.

The completed first phase, titled “The History of the Malta Police Force”, features original police equipment, historical photographs and archival documents displayed in interpretative showcases.

Together, the exhibits trace the evolution of policing in Malta over the years and highlight the role played by generations of officers in serving the country.

During a visit to the museum, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri said the initiative helps people better understand the origins and development of the Police Force, including the period when it formed part of Malta’s military structure.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà noted that the project coincides with the Force’s 212th anniversary and described it as the first of five planned phases.

Further stages are expected to include additional historical material, educational initiatives and more interactive installations for visitors.
