187 New Teachers Engaged Ahead Of Malta’s New Scholastic Year

Malta’s state school system has welcomed 187 newly engaged teachers ahead of the start of the 2026/27 scholastic year.

The new recruits include 142 regular teachers and 45 supply teachers, as thousands of students prepare to return to classrooms across Malta and Gozo.

They will form part of a much larger education workforce, with a total of 8,861 educators set to teach the 37,771 students enrolled in state schools this year.

The new intake comes as the education sector prepares for another full scholastic year, with 2,754 new students also entering the state school system.

Recruitment of teachers remains particularly important as schools balance growing educational needs, specialised support and the day-to-day demands of classrooms across the country.

The new teachers will now join thousands of educators working across kindergarten, primary and secondary schools as students return for the 2026/27 academic year.
